St John at Hackney Churchyard Gardens used to be a magnet for anti-social behaviour, having fallen into significant decline over a number of years. Today, it is an oasis in one of the most densely populated, built-up areas of London.
Following this transformation, it has reached the semi-finals of The National Lottery Awards 2009, in the Best Heritage Project category.
